On November 12, 2007 we did another hiking trip, this time on West End of Rundle (2998m). After we met at COP, we crowded in a car. When we left Calgary, the weather was acceptable, but as we have got closer to Banff, it changed. The upper part of the mountain was covered with fog. The parking lot was empty, showing that there weren’t too many willing to take a hike. At the beginning the path is very clear, crossing a bridge, just after the parking lot, and beside de golf course. In the forest the path stir your imagination to trail running or mountain bike. The mountain has two peaks: First Peak, shorter, but more technical and Main Peak easier, but higher. When we reached the central gully, that separates the peaks, we took a snack break. ![]() First Peak
![]() We were surprised to find some sighs on the tree’s bark, maybe because this is a popular scramble. After we entered the alpine area, the wind started to blow harder. After we surpassed few easy steps, the Canadian friend gave up climbing the top and Ronald decided to go back with him, to prevent any problem. I and Attila continued to the top.
The gusts of wind became stronger and the scree was tediously loose close to the top. We advanced slowly and when we were on the top the blizzard was pretty strong.
We took a picture on the top and we hurried downward, the descending being worsened by the thick fog.
We reached the forest, ate a sandwich and we saw some wild hens. ![]()
