Saturday May 26, 2007, nice weather, I participated at Blackfoot Ultra-marathon 50K. The race took place near Edmonton at Cooking Lake Blackfoot Area, a beautiful area, a quiet and isolated park with a grassy path, with numerous lakes and unlimited supply of mosquitoes.

The race gathered around 325 runners, divided in 4 groups: 25k, 50k, 50 miles, 100k. The race start has been at different time, accordingly to the distance that followed to be run. Runners’ age was from 18 to 70+, proving once again that is never late to to have a passion for run.

The 50k race involved 2 loops of 25k, through the forest, with some ups and downs. There were 3 aid stations providing water, fruits and energy gels. Toward the first aid station, being cheer up by the fans (CARA team).

Starting the second loop.

On the way...

The team:
  • sponsor, cameraman, driver, event planner and final award - Nikita,
  • pacer - Calin, who encourage me on the last 4 k,
  • responsible with the race strategy for other runners (by snoring on the night before the race) - Jeni.

Final result: 50K done in 4h 57min, a good result (5 out of 52 runners that finished the race); so the sponsors decided to sponsor me next year and to sign up themselves for the 25k race in 2008.
