On June 2, a sunny day, we hiked another peak from Kananaskis Range, more precisely Big Sister Mountain. The top is visible from the road that goes to Canmore, being the highest one from the Three Sister group.
At 17 km from Canmore, on Spray Lake Road there is a parking area. The path starts here and it goes on the southwest slopes of the mountain. To reach the top, the height gain is 1200m.

The route begins from the Spray Lake Dam and gains elevation fast, especially through the forest.
![]() After we reached the alpine zone, the path went on a rocky ridge and then descended on the scramble rocks. ![]()
Hiking up was slowly, but from the ridge the scenery was awesome, so it was worth doing it. Windtower and Lawrence Grassi Tops are visible close by and East End of Rundle is in background.
Towards the top of Big Sister the conditions didn’t look too safe because the final slope was covered with snow.

We continued on the ridge to a point were we had to down climb a short passage (5m). The route involved traversing a 50 degrees slope, which was covered with slushy snow. So we didn’t attempt the traverse, avoiding a possible accident. We admired the scenery and we planned other trips. Spparowhawk Top Assiniboine Top

It was a nice trip, but the scree doesn’t encourage us to return soon.
