On October 11, a beautiful fall day, we selected as our hiking destination a ridge that leads to Door Jamb and Loader Peak. These peaks are located on the opposite side of the road that goes to Canmore, in rapport with Heart Mountain. The trail can be easily followed, mostly on slabs, with great views in all directions.

Few inclined steps spiced the pleasure to hike.

Gaining altitude, we started to recognize some peaks, which on the northern slopes were coated with snow.

Mount McGillivray is in the center of the picture. The haze comes from a cement factory that looks like a scar on the nature’s face.

Two hours later, we were on Door Jamb flat top. On the right side of the picture, with a pointy shape, there is Mount Fable.

Majestic peaks surround the Bow River valley. From left to right: Mount Lougheed, Windtower, Rimwall, Three Sister and Grotto.

Yamnuska, which can be easily seen from Trans-Canada.

The weather was excellent and the companions were nice, therefore we continued towards Loader Peak.

When we reached the top of Loader Peak, we took a lunch break. In the same time, we had the pleasure to discuss with a mountain guide. He was working on a mix climbing line for the winter season.

The weather was still ok and we still had time, therefore we decided to keep on hiking farther on the ridge. Descending on the other side of Loader Peak, we were able to observe better the wall. In the center of the picture, wearing a yellow helmet, there is the guide with whom we had talked. He was unroped and he was walking on a ledge, maybe looking for the best line for his route.

We passed the peak on the right side of the image and we continued half the way of the ridge from the left side. We found places less walked and we had a better perspective over Yamnuska.

View toward Kananaskis, in the middle ground there is Mount Baldy and a part of Barrier Lake.

The ridge became more exposed and the watch showed that it was time to go back.

A picture as in our trips in Carpathian Mountains.
