In October 2006, we hiked Mount Indefatigable, on a terrific sunny day. The mountain is located close to Kananaskis Lakes and it has two main peaks: south and north, connected through a bumpy ridge with brief exposure. The South Peak requires a pleasant hike mostly at the forest’s cover. The route to the North Peak follows, up to one point, the same path that leads to the other summit, but after crossing a meadow, it becomes steeper and is more difficult. A look at the top from the parking lot. The trail goes above the rocky ridge and it turns to left.
A glance at the south peak, from the skirts of the forest. A red speck is distinguishable on the top, which actually is a telecommunication repeater.
In the background, the path continues through a meadow towards a saddle, and on the left side, it leads to the north peak.
![]() Upon reaching the ridge, the temperature dropped significantly due to the strong winds. ![]() After a quick snack on top of South Peak, we continued on the ridge, which was covered with fresh snow.
From the middle of the ridge, a view of South Peak...
and the North Peak...
We safely passed some exposed steps towards the North Peak. Once there we savored the panorama of the surrounding mountains. In background, Mount Foch and Sarrail.
The descending route to the saddle did not look too attractive.
From the saddle, the North Peak seems accessible.
Our adventure did not end here because we have observed a grizzly roaming on the meadow below. With a lot of precaution, we sneaked at a safe distance down towards the parking lot.
