In December 2005 and January 2006, with my wife’s support, I completed two 48 km runs each, on the road between Bluffton and Ridgeland. Despite they were on flat terrain, they proved to be a good training for the race in February. Here I am in the morning, around 6 am, at the starting line of Mount Mitchell Challenge.
The race takes place through the woods and reaches the top of Mount Mitchell (2023 m) the highest point on the east coast of US. Up to this point, I was among the first 25 runners out of 110 that were competing. The snow and ice covered the upper part of the route. On the way down, other runners who had more experience and dosed their energy better passed me. I finished in 7 hours and 14 minutes. At the finish line, my friends waited me.
![]() I was tired but happy in the same time because I finished a difficult race beside other remarkable runners.I enjoyed the time during the race because the runners were cheering mutual. After the race, we had a dinner together sharing stories from different races A video of the race start and finish.
